Frequently Asked Questions

About EthicsPoint

What is EthicsPoint?

EthicsPoint is a comprehensive and confidential reporting tool created by NAVEX that enables management and employees to work together to address fraud, abuse, and other misconduct in the workplace while cultivating a positive work environment.

Standard Chartered Speaking Up Programme

What is the Standard Chartered Speaking Up Programme?

The Speaking Up Programme helps to build and maintain a culture of strong ethics, integrity, transparency and openness. It shows that the Bank is here for good. It is a platform where anyone, employees or members of public, can report a concern about known or suspected misconduct.

Who can report a concern?

Anyone can report a concern about known or suspected misconduct. You may report a concern through the EthicsPoint website which is hosted on behalf of Standard Chartered by NAVEX, an independent third party service provider.

What types of concerns should I report?

  • The Speaking Up Programme will help Standard Chartered identify a range of potential risks, suspected misconduct and more. You do not need absolute proof or proof beyond reasonable doubt of misconduct. A suspicion based on reasonable foundation is sufficient.
  • Examples of concerns that may be raised are concerns that relate to accounting, internal accounting controls or auditing matters and concerns relating to bribery or banking and financial crime.

What are the types of concerns should I not report?

  • This is not a customer service channel. If you would like to provide a feedback or ask questions relating to Standard Chartered banking services, please refer to your relevant country ‘Contact Us’ webpage.
  • Please forward suspicious messages or emails claiming to be from the Bank to be.secure@sc.com. Include the full email header or sender’s details and attachments so we can try and track the source.

Will my colleagues find out I have raised a concern?

  • The EthicsPoint website is a secure and confidential portal for you to raise concerns. Your concerns will then be independently reviewed by Standard Chartered.

Reporting – General

How do I raise a concern?

You may file a confidential, anonymous report via the EthicsPoint website.

Can I remain anonymous?

Yes, you may choose to remain anonymous. Please be as specific as possible about your concern as this will enable us to review the concern thoroughly.

What happens after I raise a concern?

The report is lodged in the EthicsPoint system, where it is available only to a dedicated team within Standard Chartered who will review the information.

Reporting Security & Confidentiality

Can I file a report from home and still remain anonymous?

A report from home, or any Internet portal will remain secure. An Internet portal never identifies a visitor by screen name and the EthicsPoint system strips away Internet addresses so that anonymity is totally maintained.

I am concerned that the information I provide EthicsPoint will ultimately reveal my identity. How can you assure me that will not happen?

The EthicsPoint system protects your anonymity. However, if you wish to remain anonymous, you, as a reporting party, need to ensure that the body of the report does not reveal your identity by accident.

What if I want to be identified with my report?

There is a section in the report to identify yourself, if you wish.

Tips & Best Practices

I am not sure if what I have observed or heard qualifies as a concern to be reported. However, it does not look right to me. What should I do?

You can still submit a report. The concerns will be reviewed by Standard Chartered who will consider the appropriate action.

What if I remember something important about the incident after I file the report? Or what if Standard Chartered has further questions for me concerning my report?

When you file a report at the EthicsPoint website, you will receive a unique, randomised number called a “Report Key” and are asked to choose a password. You can return to the EthicsPoint system and access the original report to add more detail. We strongly suggest that you return to the site in two to three business days in the event that the Bank has posted questions to you.

What if I lose my Report Key or forget the Password I created?

To ensure that security and confidentiality is maintained, if you lose your report key or password, you will need to file a new report. Mention in the new report that it is related to a report or question you previously submitted.
