FAQs.

How does the Protector Line work?

Our Code of Business Conduct is clear on Tesco’s expectations with regards to living our values and principles and abiding to the law. We also want to encourage colleagues to speak up, without fear of retaliation. If you are aware of any conduct that may be illegal, unethical or in breach of our Code of Business Conduct, we encourage you to speak up about it.

Protector Line is hosted by NAVEX, an independent external organisation, which provides a confidential reporting solution to Tesco 24/7, 365 days a year. Reporting can also be made anonymously.

You can submit a report via the web or phone and have the option to do so in a language of choice. You will be asked to provide information required to investigate the concern. This information will determine the Tesco team who will receive a system notification in order to investigate the report. There is also an option to remain anonymous (if permitted by law).

After completing your report, you will be provided with a report key and asked to create a password in order to return to the site to view any updates or follow-up questions. Remember to make a note of this!

How will my Protectorline concern be investigated?

Your concern will be assigned to an impartial Tesco manager to look into, and this may lead to investigation if required. Please provide as much information as possible to support this and you may be contacted by the manager directly if they have any questions. Your anonymity will be respected where requested.

Tesco endeavors to acknowledge receipt of your report within seven days and may also have follow-up questions in order to investigate the matter further. Please check back regularly using your report key and password. Every effort is made to investigate reports and provide an outcome as soon as possible. This will depend on the case, information received and type of investigation. If an investigation is not finished within three months, the reporter will be informed of when they can next expect an update. Please note that for confidentiality reasons, Tesco teams are sometimes limited in the information they can provide about the details of the investigation or its outcome.

Colleagues

Is Protectorline the right place for my concern?

We encourage Colleagues to raise any concerns internally, and at local level first. This could be with a line manager, their line manager, an area manager or a member of the People team. If you do not feel able to speak to one of them, you can contact Protector Line. Protector Line is not for everyday issues relating to pay, holidays, colleague relations or people policies. Colleague Help has a wealth of information to help you direct any queries you may have.

How else can I raise my concerns?

We would always encourage colleagues to raise their concerns informally at a local level where possible as this helps us to resolve them quickly and agreeably, however if you wish to raise a formal concern, please click here for details on our Solving Problems policies.

Suppliers

What is Tesco Supplier Protector Line?

It’s a free and confidential service that allows Tesco suppliers and their employees to raise concerns that could have a negative impact to the Tesco brand/reputation or themselves.

Why has Tesco set this up?

It is important that we and our suppliers encourage a culture of honesty and accountability in order to prevent wrongdoings and to address them if they occur. The Tesco Code of Business Conduct makes clear that as a business wherever we operate, we will always abide by the law. This ensures our customers have total trust in the products and services that we provide.

If you have any questions relating to the Protector Line, please speak to your line manager, People or Legal team. You can also contact: business.conduct@tesco.com
