British International Investment is committed to the protection and security of your personal information.

It is important that you read this notice so that you are aware of how and why we are using such information. This privacy notice describes how we collect and use personal information during and after your relationship with us, in accordance with data protection law. They will be updated regularly.

BII is the data controller for the personal data used for the purposes of this Hotline.

The type of personal data we process

We currently collect and use the following information:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Contact details
  • The facts reported that could be deemed suspicious;
  • The facts gathered in the course of the investigation;

How we get your personal data and why we have it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

  • To comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Legitimate interests: to maintain employment records and good employment practice, to ensure safe working practices.
  • For reasons of substantial public interest (preventing or detecting unlawful acts, suspicion of terrorist financing or money laundering in the regulated sector and protecting the public against dishonesty).

We also receive personal information indirectly, from the following sources in the following scenarios:

Automated monitoring of our websites and other technical systems, such as our computer networks and connections, servers, Office365, line of business systems, CCTV and access control systems, communications systems, remote access systems, email and instant messaging systems, intranet and Internet facilities, telephones, voicemail, mobile phones and devices.

We use the personal data we receive in order to investigate reports and take any actions required. We rely on the lawful bases of our legal obligations, your consent and our legitimate interests in investigating reports without overriding your interests or fundamental rights and freedoms and complying with foreign legal obligations.

We may share this information with:

  • Regulators
  • Law enforcement

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:

  1. We have a legal obligation.
  2. We have a vital interest.
  3. We need it to perform a public task.
  4. We have a legitimate interest

The legal bases on which the BII processes special categories of information you have provided, is on the basis of:

  • The processing being necessary for the BII in the field of employment, social security and social protection law.
  • The information being manifestly made public by you.
  • The processing being necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
  • The substantial public interest in BII:
    • Preventing or detecting unlawful acts
    • Protecting the public
    • Meeting regulatory requirements
    • Preventing fraud
    • Suspicion of terrorist financing or money laundering.
  • The processing is necessary for historical research purposes/statistical purposes.

How we store your personal data

Personal data is stored securely and in accordance with our data retention schedule. At the end of this period your data is disposed of unless it is subject to a regulatory or legal hold request.

Your Rights

  • Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.
  • Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.
  • Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.
