Speak Up line

Doing the Right Thing

Our Code is a framework to help us all to do the right thing. It’s there to help you find and understand the company’s principles, standards and policies that apply in your work with Johnson Matthey. It is also an expression of our shared values and the way we do business, that will help us work openly, honestly and ethically.

There may be times when you see, know of, hear about or suspect something which is unsafe, unethical or unlawful or that may not be in accordance with our Code, our policies and procedures.

In this situation you have a responsibility to Speak Up and raise the concern promptly. There are a number of channels you can use to Speak Up (see below) but in situations where you would prefer to raise a concern by placing an anonymous* report in confidence, you are encouraged to use this Speak Up line, hosted by an independent third-party provider, EthicsPoint from NAVEX.

The earlier you Speak Up the more likely it is that the impact of the situation can be minimised. Don’t wait for others to Speak Up or until something has actually gone wrong before Speaking Up.

What you need to know about our Speak Up line

What is the Speak Up line?

Our Speak Up line is an independent and confidential reporting tool you can use to raise a concern if you see, know of, hear about or suspect something which is unsafe, unethical or unlawful or that may not be in accordance with JM’s Code, policies and procedures. The Speak Up line can be used by JM’s workers and all our other stakeholders.

You don’t have to be a JM employee to use this service. You can raise a concern using the online portal or via the telephone service.

Who operates the Speak Up line?

JM’s Speak Up line is hosted by an independent third-party provider, EthicsPoint from NAVEX. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can accommodate most languages so you can feel comfortable speaking to someone in your own language.

Who else can I speak to?

JM encourages you to Speak Up if you have a concern that may potentially breach our Code of Ethics. There are several different channels you can use if you are a JM worker: - Your manager, HR, Group Legal, Group Ethics and Compliance, Other Group functions (relating to specific areas of expertise such as Group EHS) as well as our Ethics Ambassadors.

Is this a confidential process?

When you Speak Up, the information you provide will be dealt with confidentially. This means it will only be shared with people on a strict need to know basis. Whilst it is easier for JM to address concerns when they are raised openly, we understand in some situations you may not feel comfortable doing this. You can raise your concerns anonymously (where legally permitted) as well as openly through the Speak Up line.

What about retaliation?

We never allow retaliation. JM takes very seriously any claims of retaliation or discrimination against anyone as a result of raising a concern or assisting in an investigation. Where necessary, we will deal with retaliation by taking disciplinary action in order to protect those who do the right thing by Speaking Up.

What happens when I raise a Speak Up?

Once you submit your concern via the online portal or by phone, you will receive a report key and password which can be used to follow up on your submission. You can use this to track the progress of your report, amend any details and answer any questions the investigator may ask. If you raise a Speak Up anonymously, please check back within 5 days of making your report, and regularly thereafter, as this will be the only way we can contact you.
