Abuse of Company Time Concerns about employee or manager misuse of company time. (Examples include: abuse of sick leave privileges, reporting for work in a condition not fit to perform the job, and excessive personal phone calls, emails and internet usage.)
Accounting and Auditing Matters The unethical recording and/or analysis of financial and business transactions. (Examples include: misstatement of revenues, misstatement of expenses, misstatement of assets, misapplication of generally accepted accounting principles, omission of information, wrongful transactions.)
Competition Issues involving fair dealings with business partners and competing appropriately with competitors. Misappropriation refers to the unauthorized or improper use of a third party's intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.
Conflict of Interest A conflict of interest is defined as a situation in which a person, such as a public official, an employee, or a professional, has a private or personal interest sufficient to appear to influence the objective exercise of his/her official duties. (Examples include: outside employment with a customer, competitor or supplier of the Company; conflicting outside activities; conflicting interests in other businesses; improper award of a contract based on relationship.)
Discrimination or Harassment Discrimination is any distinction, exclusion or preference based on a prohibited ground that deprives an employee of equal opportunity in employment. Harassment is any unwelcome written, physical or verbal conduct that offends or humiliates another person. Harassment may be one incident or a series of incidents and may be intentional or unintentional. Harassment is a violation of the law when based on a prohibited ground of discrimination as protected by Canadian Human Rights legislation (including race, national or ethnic origin, religion, family status, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, age, marital status, and physical or mental disability.) Harassment may include bullying, which is any intentional written, physical or verbal conduct that is persistent or pervasive and creates an intimidating or threatening work environment for an employee.
Falsification of Contracts, Reports or Records Falsification of records consists of altering, fabricating, falsifying, or forging all or any part of a document, contract or record for the purpose of gaining an advantage, or misrepresenting the value of the document, contract or record.
Fraud and Embezzlement Dishonest, irregular or illegal acts, characterized by a deliberate intent at concealment or false representation, resulting in the diversion of Company resources, whether or not for personal gain.
Improper Giving or Receiving of Gifts May include the giving, receiving, or solicitation of items that could be reasonably interpreted as an effort to influence a business relationship or decision. This may include any items given, received, or solicited for the benefit of the individual or an individual's family or friends, or items given/received/solicited during or in connection with contract negotiations. These items may include the acceptance of cash/cheques or equivalent, physical goods, vouchers, trips/vacations, gift certificates, loans, stocks, stock option, or services.
Insider Trading or other Securities Violations Infringement, transgression; specifically: an infringement of the rules which securities acts define.
Lost or Found Property This category to capture lost equipment that is not stolen but may by merely lost by employee. This category would also capture items from time to time that are found and turned in to corporate security and need to be tracked due to value.
Personal Integrity Reporting of criminal charge/conviction
Theft May involve crime or theft, breaking and entering with the intent to steal or attempt to steal or commit the same of customer or company assets, revenues by employees or non-employees.
Unauthorized use of Company Assets or Services Use of Company resources, equipment or intellectual property for purposes not directly related to Company business.
Violation of Policy or Procedures Willful or innocent actions that are in direct violation of company policy, procedures, code of conduct, and/or implied contractual responsibilities. (Examples include: non-disclosure agreements, substance abuse, hiring standards, safety, Internet usage, corporate guidelines.)
Violations of Laws and Regulations Intentional wrongdoing, specifically: deliberate violation of a law or regulation. (Examples include: sabotage or vandalism, concealing illicit funds or money laundering, allowing a vendor an unfair advantage, bribery.)
Workplace Health and Safety, Environmental Protection Health or safety concerns as a result of failure to meet requirements needed to perform duties in a secure environment. Violation of any environmental law, regulation, policy or procedure with respect to the handling and disposal of hazardous materials or the health and safety of other individuals.
Workplace Violence The attempted, threatened or actual conduct of a person that causes or is likely to cause injury, and includes any threatening statement or behaviour that gives a worker reasonable cause to believe that the worker is at risk of injury.
